Darius, known as Stumbletongue to Basta, was formerly Capricorn's Silvertongue reader in Inkheart. Because he stammers when he reads, he is responsible for Resa's lost voice, Flatnose's distorted face, and Cockerell's limp. When Capricorn is killed by the Shadow, Darius goes to live with Elinor and helps her to collect new books. Just about as much in love with books as Elinor Loredan.
